AP-HP

Digital signature for efficient processes in healthcare

The challenge for AP-HP

AP-HP (Assistance publique – hôpitaux de Paris) is the largest university hospital in Europe, managing 39 hospitals with over 20,000 beds, 100,000 employees, and 13,000 physicians, providing a full range of specialties, from local care to advanced treatments for complex and rare diseases.
As a huge organization managing more than 700,000 orders per year, AP-HP, like many other administrative organizations, was looking to accelerate the digitization of its support functions to reduce persistent material flows in its business processes and thus optimize costs.

Our solution for AP-HP

The goal was to ensure the integrity and evidential value of documents (purchase orders, public tenders…) with the electronic signature, as APHP needed a solution capable of handling a large and scalable volume of electronic documents.
We deployed IDnomic Sign, a centralized electronic signature solution integrated with SAP and SharePoint for the client’s needs.
This interoperable and full-featured solution is able to process a large number of signatures, uniquely identify the signer of a document, and thus create documents with legal value that are verifiable long after they are created.

With IDnomic Sign, AP-HP’s purchasing department signs approximately 700,000 purchase orders per year and captures 300 signers.

Digital signature for efficient processes in healthcare

The challenge for AP-HM

AP-HM (Assistance publique – hôpitaux de Marseille) is the third largest university hospital in France, managing 4 hospitals, 3,400 beds, 12,000 employees and 2,000 physicians.
As a large organization, APHM manages a large number of paper records and private patient data.
To offer new, electronic services to healthcare professionals and patients, APHM wanted to reduce its persistent material flows and guarantee document integrity and evidential value through electronic signatures. In addition, APHM needed a solution capable of managing a large and ever-evolving volume of electronic documents.

Our solution for AP-HM

We have deployed IDnomic Sign, our electronic signature solution, together with our IDnomic timestamp application, which is compliant with the eIDAS regulation.
The deployed platform produces more than 5500 signatures per day.

The University Hospital of Würzburg operates its PKI with PKIntegrated

The challenge for the University Hospital Würzburg

The University Hospital Würzburg is one of the largest hospitals in Bavaria. In addition to more than 4,000 employees, there are numerous external IT users. Like every hospital, the University Hospital Würzburg attaches great importance to IT security, since patient data must be protected.

In order to meet the high security requirements, the University Hospital Würzburg has introduced strong encryption and authentication mechanisms based on digital certificates. These protect different medical IT applications. Wherever possible, private keys are stored on smart cards. Software keys are only used in exceptional cases. The University Hospital of Würzburg has set up a public key infrastructure (PKI) to manage the digital certificates.

Our solution for the University Hospital Würzburg

The certification authority (CA) of the PKI of the University Hospital Würzburg is operated with PKIntegrated by cryptovision. This high-end product proved to be optimal as it is seamlessly integrated into the identity management solution of Micro Focus used by the hospital.

Micro Focus’s identity management solution (with products such as eDirectory, Identity Manager and iManager) used to be a family of products from the US software giant Novell. Novell was acquired in 2010 and later merged into Micro Focus. cryptovision has been a partner of Novell and its successors for 15 years. The PKI solution PKIntegrated is seamlessly integrated into the identity management of Micro Focus. The University Hospital of Würzburg, a long-term Novell and Micro Focus customer, quickly realized that PKIntegrated was an ideal fit for its environment. PKIntegrated has been in operation there for over five years.

In addition to PKIntegrated, the University Hospital of Würzburg also uses the smartcard middleware SCinterface from cryptovision. This connects the PCs of the users with the cards. Another solution is a card management system from Nexus Technologies.

The University Hospital Würzburg is one of many cryptovision customers in the healthcare sector. Most of them are large hospitals with complex IT infrastructures that have to protect their data reliably without affecting the often life-critical work of their staff.

With our card solution, CHL was able to abolish numerous passwords

The challenge for CHL

In a hospital not only high security requirements apply (not to be imagined if patient data fall into the hands of hackers), but also high demands on user-friendliness. For example, an emergency doctor or surgeon cannot deal with complicated passwords when a patient next door is in danger of death.

The Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), which operates several clinics in Luxembourg, was therefore looking for a secure and user-friendly solution to eliminate as many passwords as possible with the same card (or token). With this one solution, a clinic employee should be able to enter the garage in the morning, log on to the PC, start various programs, operate time recording and pay in the canteen.

Our solution for CHL

With the multi-application card and the smartcard middleware from cryptovision, the CHL’s wish could be fulfilled in an ideal way. In the meantime, even more applications have been added to the originally planned ones. The employee card is now also used to digitally sign e-mails and workflows. The card solution has made CHL’s day-to-day work easier, while security has increased.

cryptovision guarantees the safety of the Siemens HiMed Cockpit

The challenge for Siemens

HiMed Cockpit from Siemens is a successful multimedia terminal for the hospital bed. It “offers patients comfort in a new dimension” (Siemens website). With the HiMed Cockpit, patients can make phone calls, watch TV, surf the Internet, obtain information via a patient portal, use various applications and more. The integrated camera even enables a virtual visit to the hospital by relatives.

The HiMed Cockpit is also a great help for doctors and nurses. It can be connected to the hospital information system, allowing a doctor, for example, to view a patient’s medical record at the bedside. Thanks to smartcard authentication, the security of sensitive data is guaranteed at all times.

Our solution for Siemens

cryptovision has developed an extension of the smartcard middleware SCinterface for Siemens. This is used on the HiMed cockpits and enables the secure login of a doctor or nurse.
